This year the CEFIC General assembly took place at the Royal Garden Hotel in London. This was where the newly elected CEFIC president Dr Kurt Bock was announced.

Richard Davies, Inspection Engineer at ESSAR Oil UK Ltd (Last Year’s CIA Young Ambassador) and Andrea Seedhouse, Unit Manager for SABIC attended the press release and also the debate which was hosted by Jo Confino, the Guardian’s Sustainability Editor. 12-Sir-Sebastian-Coe-with-Andrea-Seedhouse-and-Richard-Davies

The debate was entitled ‘The Chemical Industry in Europe: Towards Sustainability?’ Richard and Andrea were able to contribute their views on the industry and what observations they have been able to conclude since recently starting their careers. Their points created a good discussion on how young people working in industry can affect its sustainability moving forward and also how the chemical sector has a lot more to offer than just good career prospects. The age profile of those working in the industry shows that there is a lot of knowledge to be passed on – something new starters crave.

Richard and Andrea were also able to attend the concluding evening meal that was hosted by the CIA at the Banquet House. This also included a private tour of Westminster Abbey which was very well received.

Lord Sebastian Coe was the guest speaker at the dinner which also included speeches by Dr Kurt Bock and CIA Chief Executive Steve Elliot at the Banqueting House, London.
