Overcome formulation challenges and accelerate product development with practical measurement insights
Anton Paar UK is inviting professionals from across the personal care industry to attend its free one-day “Measuring and Characterising Personal Care Products” Workshop on Wednesday 21 October 2026 at its UK offices and laboratory in Luton.
As personal care products become increasingly sophisticated, manufacturers face growing pressure to deliver consistent product quality, stability and sensory performance while reducing development time and improving manufacturing efficiency. Designed for scientists, formulators, quality control specialists and manufacturing professionals, this workshop combines expert presentations with hands-on laboratory demonstrations to provide practical insight into the analytical techniques used throughout the product lifecycle.
Discover how advanced measurement technologies can help overcome common formulation challenges, reduce reliance on trial and error, improve product stability and support faster, data-driven decision-making. Throughout the day, Anton Paar specialists will demonstrate how techniques such as rheology, viscosity, particle characterisation and spectroscopy can be applied to optimise formulation development, strengthen quality assurance and improve processes from laboratory development through to production.
Attendees will learn how to:
- Identify raw materials, verify ingredients and detect polymorphs using FTIR and Raman spectroscopy.
- Measure density, refractive index, optical rotation, colour and turbidity to assess composition and batch consistency.
- Understand viscosity and rheological behaviour to optimise mixing, pumping, filling, dispensing and storage stability.
- Evaluate product structure, flow behaviour, structural recovery and sprayability.
- Investigate dispersion and emulsion stability through particle size and zeta potential analysis.
- Understand how particles influence appearance, texture, active ingredient delivery and overall product performance.
- Assess powder flow, cohesion, caking, compressibility and handling characteristics.
- Use tribology to evaluate sensory properties including slipperiness, drag, tack and spreadability.
- Explore microwave digestion techniques for sample preparation prior to trace element analysis.
- Discover how online and inline measurement technologies can improve process visibility and reduce production feedback times.
- Participants will also gain practical experience using analytical instrumentation across spectroscopy, rheology, particle characterisation, powder flow analysis, tribology and process measurement.
The workshop is suitable for professionals working in quality control, laboratory services, research and development, formulation, product development, production and technical support, as well as raw material suppliers, contract manufacturers, application specialists and private-label producers. It will be of particular interest to those involved in the development and manufacture of skincare, haircare, oral care, fragrances, colour cosmetics, sunscreens, gels, emulsions, suspensions, sprays, powders and other personal care products.
The event will take place from 09:30 to 16:40 at Anton Paar Ltd, 950 Capability Green, Luton, LU1 3LU.
Attendance is free of charge, with lunch and refreshments provided throughout the day. As places are limited, early registration is recommended. Registration closes on 18 October 2026.
