Haltermann Carless, a company of HCS Group and a leading supplier of high-value hydrocarbon solutions, will become the world’s largest producer of Cyclopentane and Cyclopentane blends following the completion of its new hydrogenation plant at its Speyer site in Germany.

The company anticipates to significantly increase its production capacity of Cyclopentane by up to 70% as of Q1 2022.

René Tessmann, Business Unit Manager Industrial, said: “We are observing an extremely high demand for our blowing agent Cyclopentane. The reasons for this include topics such as building insulation and energy efficiency, which are becoming even more important as a result of the European Green Deal.

“With our new hydrogenation plant, we can address the capacity shortfall on the global market, steadily expand our market presence in important industries and regions and contribute to greater sustainability together with our customers.”

Around 100,000 tonnes of different hydrogenated products – including Cyclopentane – can be processed annually in the plant depending on the feedstock used. Cyclopentane makes significant contribution to energy efficiency.

Haltermann Carless is already a leading manufacturer of Pentanes in Europe and the USA and the only European company that produces all three types of Pentane.

The blowing agent Cyclopentane offers the highest quality of the three isomers, along with n- and iso-Pentane. In Polyurethane (PU) foams, Cyclopentane provides a particularly high insulating effect and contributes to efficient insulation of buildings and refrigerators.

The Speyer hydrogenation plant is the largest investment Haltermann Carless has made since becoming part of the HCS Group.

In addition to the Pentane product line, the plant will also be used to produce Middle Distillates with a particularly high degree of purity, as required by the pharmaceutical or printing ink industries.
