Leveraging Virtual Models to Improve Performance and Efficiency

24th March 2023; 13:00 hrs

Recently, the Wolfson Centre started applying digital twinning in the field of pneumatic conveying, which involves transporting bulk materials through pipelines using pressurized air. Digital Twin technology is used to create a virtual representation of a pneumatic conveying system that can be used for various purposes, including real-time monitoring, control, proactive and reactive operations, performance optimization, fault detection, and maintenance prediction. In addition, using Digital Twin technology in pneumatic conveying offers several benefits, including improved efficiency, reduced downtime, and lower maintenance costs.

Looking towards the future, the integration of Digital Twin technology with Industry 5.0, the fifth industrial revolution, is expected to bring even more advanced capabilities and benefits, which will enable the creation of more sophisticated Digital Twins with even greater accuracy and predictive capabilities.

Presenter: Chanaka Prasad

Chanaka is currently undertaking a PhD programme at the Wolfson Centre sponsored by Schenck Process UK Ltd.

His project relates to Digital Twin technology, which refers to the digital representation of a physical object or system and has a long history that has evolved alongside Industry 4.0. Different Digital Twin architectures are used in various industries, depending on the specific needs and requirements of the application.

This webinar will provide a snapshot of Chanaka’s studies to date and will discuss the technique and research conducted in Industry.
