Anton Paar’s New Diana Series Brings Robust Engineering to Automated Distillation

Anton Paar introduces the new Diana series for automated boiling-range analysis of petroleum and petrochemical products. Diana 301 performs atmospheric distillation of fuels according to ASTM D86 and EN ISO 3405, while Diana 701 extends the application range to solvents according to ASTM D1078 and ASTM D850. Combining a unique metal vapour temperature sensor with a long-life heater, liquid-free Peltier cooling, and a contamination-resistant receiving chamber, the new Diana series is built for demanding daily operation, delivering reliable, standards-compliant results and seamless integration into digital laboratory workflows.

“Accurate and reproducible measurements of vapour temperature and recovered volume are fundamental to distillation analysis, but they should not come at the expense of sample throughput, long-term reliability, or intuitive operation,” says Erik Kalinka, Product Manager for Distillation at Anton Paar. “With the new Diana series, we bring together high measurement performance, robust components, and operator-friendly automation for efficient daily laboratory work.”

A key innovation of Diana 701 is the market’s only robust metal vapour temperature sensor. Designed for demanding testing environments, it significantly reduces the risk of breakage associated with glass sensors while delivering the same glass-level measurement performance, helping improve both instrument uptime and operator safety. Integrated sensor memory stores identification and temperature calibration data, enabling automatic recognition of connected sensors, traceability through stored serial numbers, and straightforward sensor exchange.

Building on this focus on durability, the new Diana series is engineered for intensive daily use. Its long-life heater is validated for more than 10,000 heating cycles, while the easy-to-clean receiving chamber with integrated anti-condensation technology ensures stable volume detection over long operating periods, even in humid environments. The improved liquid-free Peltier cooling system is designed for greater longevity while keeping idle time to a minimum when switching between methods. Together, these features support high instrument uptime, low maintenance effort, and a low total cost of ownership.

The Diana series also integrates seamlessly into digital laboratory workflows. Flexible export options and connectivity with AP Connect and LIMS platforms reduce manual data transfer while supporting traceability and audit compliance. This helps laboratories manage distillation results efficiently from measurement through documentation.

The new Diana series represents the next generation of Anton Paar’s automated distillation analysers, combining reliable measurement performance, robust long-term operation, and connected workflows for modern petroleum and petrochemical testing laboratories
