Are you interested in upskilling your employees? With funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) the University of York leads a EPSRC Mobility Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) in Leadership and Excellence in Circular, Resource-efficient, Sustainable Manufacturing. The DTP is  aimed at candidates currently working in UK industry.

The programme provides funding  to support employees to work towards an MSc by Research or a PhD.

  • Route 1 – a fully-funded, one-year full time or two year part-time postgraduate research programme leading to an MSc by Research (to start in 2026/27)
  • Route 2 – a fully-funded, 4 year full time PhD postgraduate research programme leading to a PhD (to start in 2027/27)

The Managing Director of Anaero Technology Ltd, Edgar Blanco, explains the benefits of being involved in the programme can bring to a UK SME.

“The EPSRC Mobility DTP has enabled Anaero Technology to retain and develop highly specialised research expertise within a UK SME, while significantly upskilling an employee and broadening the company’s research capabilities.

The programme has strengthened Anaero’s ability to collaborate with universities and research organisations. Having someone within the company who understands both academic research and commercial technology development enables Anaero to better understand researcher’s experimental requirements, contribute to collaborative R&D projects and translate research questions into appropriate experimental approaches and equipment solutions.

Overall, the EPSRC investment has delivered tangible benefits to Anaero Technology by bringing additional scientific and analytical expertise into the company, strengthening its R&D and university–industry collaboration capabilities, supporting the development of an employee within the business, and broadening Anaero’s technical outlook from conventional biomethane production towards wider resource recovery and biomass valorisation.”

What to get involved? Potential applicants must currently be employed in UK Industry and must have support from their companies to undertake this study programme. Queries and correspondence about the EPSRC Mobility DTP can be sent to: chem-env-pgr@york.ac.uk
