Anton Paar and Specac Ltd to Host Free FTIR Spectroscopy Workshop

Anton Paar and Specac Ltd are joining forces to give laboratory professionals a practical introduction to FTIR spectroscopy and its applications.

Anton Paar is collaborating with Specac Ltd, a leading manufacturer of FTIR spectroscopy sampling accessories, to host a free Basics of Spectroscopy Workshop on Wednesday 30 September 2026 at Anton Paar UK’s facility in Luton.

The one-day workshop is designed for laboratory professionals who want to develop their understanding of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, whether they are completely new to the technique or looking to refresh their existing knowledge.

FTIR spectroscopy is a powerful analytical technique used to identify and characterise materials by measuring how they interact with infrared light. It can help laboratories identify unknown substances, verify raw materials, investigate contamination and support product development, providing valuable analytical information quickly and efficiently.

The versatility of FTIR makes it suitable for a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, polymers, food and beverage, cosmetics, environmental analysis and materials science.

The workshop will combine expert presentations from Anton Paar and Specac Ltd with practical demonstrations and hands-on analysis. Attendees will explore FTIR from both an instrumentation and sampling perspective, with Specac Ltd specialists demonstrating a variety of sampling methods and accessories.

Throughout the day, spectroscopy specialists will cover the fundamentals of FTIR, how the technique works, selecting the appropriate sampling method and best practices for generating accurate, reliable and reproducible results.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore:

  • The fundamentals of FTIR spectroscopy and how it works.
  • FTIR instrumentation and sampling method selection.
  • Best practices for accurate and reproducible measurements.
  • Hands-on ATR and Transmission FTIR demonstrations.
  • Analysis of solid and liquid samples, including quantitative measurements in solution.
  • Practical FTIR applications in quality assurance, product development and research.
