Our Chemical Elements on 20th September provided updates on various Environment, Health and Safety Legislation (EHS), which is now an ongoing task for chemical companies within the region. The event had over 40 people in attendance.

recycling_bin-3333pxChris Howick of Ineos Chlorvinyls and a member of Chemicals Northwest REACH user group presented on the imminent stages of registration and the forthcoming deadlines of the REACH Regulations. Chris also covered the managing of extended safety data sheets. Mike Weaver from Chilworth Global gave a presentation on the new Classification, Labelling & Packaging (CLP) regulations which are proving to be challenging to the operation of chemical businesses.

David Turnbull from the Environment Agency presented the practical aspects of the revised water framework directive and what the changes mean to  chemical sites in the North West, large and small.

Damien Williams from RAS Limited gave his presentation on the implementation of the Seveso III Directive in the UK as this is likely to impact many companies who need to be aware of how their COMAH arrangements may be affected. Gordon MacDonald from the Health and Safety Executive presented on the new “Fee for Intervention” rules which came into effect in October 2012 to raise awareness on the subject. Gordon emphasised the fact that HSE will charge for the time they spend enforcing material breaches of health and safety regulations on all non-COMAH sites.
